2019 Wine Cellar

Billecart-Salmon

Champagne Brut Reserve

91 points $95.99

“A fine straw-gold colour with great finesse of bubble flow and mousse. Joyful aromas of apple blossom and ripe pear. A full, defined palate demonstrates richness that will help to give this a long life in the cellar.”

Contino

Rioja Reserva 2012

96 points $53.99

Deep ruby red in colour, clear and bright. The nose is very expressive, with fruit expression and elegance standing out. Red fruits are well integrated with spicy notes adding to the finesse. On the palate, the wine is well balanced and very long.

Goulee by Cos d’Estournel 2015

92 points $79.99

The bounty and grace of nature. Goulée by Cos d’Estournel brings to mind a light sea breeze, refreshing eucalyptus and the tantalizing scents of juicy, ripe berries and rich cacao beans… Evoking an invigorating afternoon spent on the water with friends or a delicious meal in an oceanfront bistro softly lit by the glowing rays of the sun, Goulée by Cos d’Estournel is decidedly untamed, a bold and expressive wine.

Bella Union

Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

91 points $127.99

The 2016 Bella Union opens with inviting aromas of black cherry, dark plum, blueberry, and cassis with intimations of warm oak, vanilla, and baking spices. Expansive, fruit-forward plum, black cherry, and blueberry flavors coat the midpalate, followed by notes of toasted oak, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Supple tannins and bright acidity pave the way to a mouthwatering finish.

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco 2004

90 Points $59.99

Made entirely from Nebbiolo grapes, Barbaresco is a wine of great complexity and elegance that is well suited for long ageing. Aromas of black cherry and violet combine with spicy notes to create its distinct taste, supported by firm tannins and a long finish.

Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-St-Georges Aux Boudots Premier Cru 2013

94 points $179.99

Bright, dark red. Pungent, expressive, highly complex aromas of black raspberry and flinty, smoky minerality, lifted by a lovely Vosne-like floral element. The palate presents a compelling combination of minerality and dark fruit intensity, with licorice and noble veggie notes adding another dimension. A rather baroque Nuits-Saint-Georges with outstanding energy, fine-grained tannins and slow-building length. Has a serious spine to support a leisurely evolution in the cellar.

Taittinger

Brut la Francaise NV

91 points $69.99

The NV Brut La Française is based on 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot Meunier, all fermented in stainless steel and blended with 30% of reserve wines. It is a pure, fresh and well-structured Brut that seems more elegant, complex and round than the Brut Réserve. The persistent finish is clear, fresh and well structured, with refreshing lemon flavors and a nice grip. My sample was said to be bottled in 2014 and disgorged in March 2017 with nine grams of dosage. There is good length and tension here as well as sweet cherry aromas in the aftertaste.

Catena Alta Chardonnay 2015

94 points $46.99

The Catena Alta Chardonnay shows an intense green-yellow color with golden highlights. The nose offers ripe white fruit aromas such as pears and peaches that are interwoven with delicate citrus and floral notes, such as Jasmine. The palate shows rich and concentrated ripe pear, apple and apricot flavors with a light note of minerality. The wine finishes long and complex with crisp, mineral acidity.

Curto Marco

La Foia Barolo 2015

94 points $89.99

Intense, ethereal, spicy with hints of rosehip petals, licorice, truffle. Warm, austere, full, robust and at the same time velvety and elegant. When young it is appreciated for its freshness even if with some angularity, with the refinement the wine softens and develops the warmer and spicy tertiary sensations.

Hope & Grace

Pinot Noir 2014

91 points $57.99

Rich aromas of raspberry jam and cherry fruit, with hints of dried rose petals, white pepper and sweet candied cherries. A lush mouth feel of red fruit floods the palate with a velvety texture ...finishing silky and full bodied.

Gabbiano Bellezza

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2012

91 points $54.99

Baked plum, Asian spice, vanilla and menthol aromas carry the nose. The elegantly structured palate offers fleshy black cherry, licorice, mint and well-integrated French oak alongside fine-grained tannins that lend firm, polished support. A coffee note marks the finish.

Cambria

Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

91 points $73.99

Ripe fruit, floral and spice aromas dominate the nose of the 2015 Katherine's Vineyard Chardonnay. Pink grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, white peach, citrus blossom, and apple flavors are balanced by a bit of wet stone, subtly oak spice and bright acid.

Cambria

Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

91 points $XX.99

Ripe blackberry and blueberry flavors are followed by notes of cranberry, cherry, and pomegranate. With a balance of earth and baking spice, this wine offers firm tannins and a long finish.

Obsidian Ridge

Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

94 points $179.99

True Cabernet Sauvignon character stands out, opening in an aromatic riot of blackberry jam, a touch of herb, spice, and coffee. The wine is full-bodied, expanding mid-palate with a dense core of black fruit, black cherries, and cacao beans; the finish lingers with a perfume of dried raspberries and rose water. The distinctive tannic structure of mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot hints at the aging potential of this wine.

Stag’s Leap

The Leap 2016

95 points $89.99

This wine is classic Stags Leap District Cabernet, offering blackberry, blueberry and macerated strawberry aromas on the nose, along with subtle baking spice notes of cinnamon, milk chocolate and coffee, alongside more savory notes of black olive and chaparral herbs. On the palate, there is elegance, freshness and complexity, showing lifted dark blackberry, blueberry and black raspberry fruits followed by hints of chocolate, espresso and black pepper spice. With big, round, mouth-pleasing tannins and a silky, smooth lithe texture, this Cabernet exhibits the iconic power and intensity that have become synonymous with Stags’ Leap estate wines but drinks elegantly, demonstrating the opulence and grace of the estate.

Penfold’s

RWT Shiraz 2015

99 points $124.99

Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 RWT Shiraz leaps from the glass with expressive blackberries, black raspberries and wild blueberry notes plus underlying Indian spices, Sichuan pepper, forest floor and fertile loam notes with a waft of charcuterie. Full-bodied, rich and seductive in the mouth, it coats the palate with vibrant black berry and spicy layers, framed by firm, rounded tannins and finishing on a lingering earthy note. One for the long haul!

Le Volte

dell’Ornellaia 2016

92 Points $42.99

You get excellent value with the entry-level 2016 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia. This vintage radiates freshness and sheer energy, thanks to the excellent material available in this classic vintage. The base of the wine is Merlot, but the winemaking team at Ornellaia sources fruit far and wide along the Tuscan coast to locate the Sangiovese and the Cabernet Sauvignon that completes the blend. The wine opens to a rich, dark appearance and offers succulent fruit tones of blackberry, blackcurrant and lingering spice. You also get that characteristic freshness that comes from the Sangiovese.

Domaine Eden

Pinot Noir 2014

93 points $52.99

Lovely spicy, intense aromas that are unmistakably Pinot Noir—deep complex, raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry—combine with oak and an earth-born nuance. Flavors are deep across on the palate, echoing the complexity of the aromas.
